There are multiple indicators that allow a user to know when his toner cartridge must be changed or must be changed soon. If the cover does not close easily, then a toner cartridge has been installed wrong and must be double checked for proper fitting. Push the toner tray back into the machine as far as it will go and then close the front cover behind it. If additional cartridges are to be replaced, repeat the process as needed, doing each cartridge one at a time. Keeping this in mind, be careful to, while holding the cartridge by its handle, lower it down into the proper slot. Pull the drum protective cover off the bottom of the unit and, once it is off, do not let it come into contact with anything other than its proper contact inside the printer. Pop the finger tab on the end of the cartridge and remove the sealing tape by pulling it out of the cartridge slowly and carefully, being careful not to break it.

Remove a now toner cartridge of the proper color from its bag and prepare it by first shaking it around a few times so that the toner inside is loose and free flowing.

Pull the toner cartridge that is to be replaced up by its handle and recycle it. Open the front cover of the Canon ImageClass MF8380CDW and press the release lever on the toner tray so that it can be pulled open like a drawer by its handle.
